Botanica | Arboretum Red Blend 2019

Arboretum is Botanica’s flagship wine crafted from the fruit of the organically farmed estate vineyards in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. It is a Bordeaux blend comprised of the best barrels the vintage gives the winemaker. This rich, smooth Cabernet Sauvignon dominant Bordeaux-style blend displays lovely blackberry, black cherry, and tobacco notes on the nose. On the palate, it boasts a core of opulent plum and cassis fruit, with firm tannins providing great texture and structure. The name celebrates the botanical collection of trees that graces Botanica’s home, Protea Heights Farm. 

Nestled in the heart of Cape Winelands Fynbos, Botanica Wines blossoms from a rich legacy as South Africa’s first commercial protea flower farm. Each bottle is a tribute to the estate’s vibrant floral heritage, with wine labels inspired by the indigenous blooms that flourish year-round.

Producer information
The Protea Heights vineyards were established in 2009 and 2010, with high-density plantings ranging from 5,600 – 10,100 vines per hectare. They are positioned primarily on cooler south-to-southeast-facing slopes, at an altitude ranging from 200 to 250 meters above sea level. Cooling afternoon breezes from False Bay provide natural air conditioning for the vineyards during the warm summer months, cooling the temperatures by an average 10+ degrees. The vineyards were converted to organic farming practices in 2014.
